In my previous blog, I had compared our flagship solution, TDXchange, to a Swiss army knife for data security. That was simply a high level overview. So what I would like to do now is go into further detail and provide some real-world examples based on my seven years of experience as a bTrade Support Engineer. These are scenarios which have been implemented by bTrade customers, both domestically and abroad, for companies that range in size from 35 to 35,000 employees.
I obviously won’t be able to cover every scenario, but I would like to discuss a few which stood out to me. These are implementations which have made a huge impact at their location in a number of ways, including cost savings, increased productivity, and most importantly, enhanced security.
#1 – Store files securely with our locked datastore
Obviously, there are many ways to send and receive files. FTP, SFTP, FTPS, AS2, AS1, HTTP, and the list goes on and on. And obviously, there are many applications on the market which can send and receive your files using these methods. The method of transfer may be secure, but what happens when the data isn’t in-transit but at-rest? With a single application, TDXchange, your entire organization can use any and all of these methods, and do so with the file(s) being completely secure while at-rest.
Pick almost any recent hack from the headlines and it was the data at-rest which was compromised. Gone are the days of hackers waiting around and grabbing bits and bytes from the air, one at a time. Who has time for that when all you have to do is gain access to the systems datastore or hard drive and instantly access hundreds, thousands, and in some cases, millions of records or files? This is where TDXchange separates itself from those other applications, because files sent/received using TDXchange are not only transferred securely, but they are also stored securely. Don’t leave your files in the open, regardless of their location.
#2 – Secure email attachments and Microsoft Outlook integration
TDXchange allows you to leverage your existing Microsoft Outlook email applications for sending/receiving secure attachments. This creates a more seamless process and avoids a steep learning curve which can be associated with a new or separate system, and virtually eliminates all of the pitfalls associated with sending attachments over email. The plug-in is simple to use, and quick and easy to install.
Additionally, our Outlook plug-in relieves all of the storage requirements from your mail server, as the attachments are stored within the TDXchange secure datastore. You will no longer have to worry about file attachment size restrictions because the files are not being sent via email. With this solution, you can send a large file to many people and the file will be stored only once, and then deleted when the last person downloads the file.
#3 – Elimination of the advanced proprietary client application
The sending of a file generally requires two things; a client and a server. The client sends, and the server receives. Historically, when you wanted to send a file using the latest and greatest method of security, you needed an advanced proprietary client application. This was something which had to be licensed and installed on every PC for every employee who needed to send files securely. It typically required some type of learning curve and wasn’t used for anything else. It could be costly, and the administration and management could be difficult.
TDXchange implements the concept of a virtual web-based mailbox. This allows participants, without any B2B software or special client application, to send and receive messages, securely, using just a web-browser. The remote user needs only internet connectivity and software freely available to any PC, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, etc. This can dramatically lower the cost of operation as no additional specialty software is needed, and the administration is virtually eliminated. The mailbox system can still be accessed by using an FTP client (secure or standard) to connect to TDXchange-embedded FTP and SFTP servers, for automation or by systems without a GUI.
